2018 Season - Week 24

Trading Day - what’s the point of that?

The analysis is in (and attached) and while Johnnie would have won his 5th Premiership title whether we had trades or not, Marcus would have finished 5th not 2nd. Marcus had the season’s best improvement by 108 points (thanks mainly to getting Patriot James White who scored 42 points in place of his injured Franchise Eagle RB Jay Ajayi. Marcus also got 24 more points after TD2 from Amari Cooper who replaced John “Smokey” Brown). Without Trading Day Craig would have been runner-up and Andy H third. It’s not only Chicago who regretted cutting Robbie Gould (after his replacement missed the chip shot field goal to defeat Philadelphia in the Wildcard Round) but H followed his favourite team and cut Gould on Trading Day 1 only to see his replacement Ryan Succop score 27 fewer points. Despite 13 owners making 45 changes to their rosters, Johnnie still won the Premiership, George, David S and Wayne were all relegated and there would have been no changes in the 5 Conference positions. So I ask you:- Trading Day, what’s the point of that? Big Thanks to Andy H The “Concession King” has been busy for us all in the Carpentry department, making a new double level base for the Conference trophy as we now have 17 years worth of winners. 2018 NFL Free Agents We are less than a month away from Free Agency and while defenders dominate the list this year there are some players you should keep an eye on. Some may be re-signed by their existing clubs but some will be moving on so keep an eye on who goes where, as free agency and the draft will affect your team. Top free agents include QBs Nick Foles & Teddy Bridgewater, RBs Le’Veon Bell, Mark Ingram & Tevin Campbell, WRs Randall Cobb & Golden Tate & Kicker Stephen Gostkowski. Franchise Players 2018-2019 As is the norm you’ll select your Franchise player after the NFL Draft and the majority of free agency as I shall be asking for your Franchise man for the next two years in early June. You’ll be giving up the player that you franchised two years ago though some have been cut due to injury or as they failed to live up to their owner’s expectations. Franchised players becoming available include QBs Tom Brady, Dak Prescott, Matt Ryan & Matt Stafford, rushers Zeke Elliott & David Johnson and receivers Davante Adams & Michael Thomas. Draft Diary Dates The 2019 BUMS Player Selection Meeting (or draft) will be at 7pm on Sunday 1st September at HQ, prior to the start of our 25th season, with the first game of the NFL’s 100th season four days later so make a note in your Filofax now. Meantime the NFL Draft will be from April 25th to the 27th. We expect it to be covered by Sky and will get together to see “as-live” the first round on Friday evening April 26th.
